What is a north-south choke?

The north-south choke attacks from the north-south position by wrapping your arm around their neck and squeezing with your shoulder. You lie chest-to-chest facing opposite directions, thread your arm under their neck, and drop your shoulder into their throat while sprawling your hips back. The choke is sneaky because it does not look threatening until it is locked in. Marcelo Garcia popularized this submission with his suffocating north-south control. Key details: get your choking arm deep, keep your hips heavy to prevent escape, and use short, explosive hip movement to finish rather than arm strength.
