What is pummeling in BJJ?
Pummeling is the hand-fighting battle for underhooks in the clinch. Both people try to swim their arms inside to get underhooks while blocking the opponent from getting theirs. You pummel by swimming your arm under their arm when they have the overhook position, fighting to establish inside control. Pummeling is a fundamental wrestling skill that directly applies to BJJ standing work and top position battles. Good pummelers feel slippery and always end up with inside position. Practice pummeling drills regularly - the timing and sensitivity it develops translates to all grappling positions.
