What is a loop choke?

The loop choke is a gi-based strangle that uses the collar grip in a circular motion to create the choke. Basic setup: grip at collarbone depth on their collar (not too deep - a shallow grip works better), pull them into you while shooting your other arm over their head to the opposite side of their neck. The loop creates a noose that tightens as you rotate. It is commonly set up from guard when an opponent stands to pass, or as a counter to knee-cuts and other passes. The loop choke catches people who focus only on passing without protecting their neck. Key details: your head must be higher than theirs, keep your elbow tight to their jaw, and position your body perpendicular to their hips (T-shape) for maximum pressure. Variations include sitting up into the choke and the collar drag to loop choke combo.
