What is combat base in BJJ?

Combat base is a kneeling position with one knee up and one knee down - like a runner's starting stance. It provides stability and the ability to quickly stand, shoot for takedowns, or defend guard pulls. Combat base is used when passing guard and in scrambles. The up-knee can be used to block guard recomposition while the down-knee provides base. It transitions easily to standing or other passing positions.
