What is the mount position?

The mount position in BJJ has you sitting on your opponent's torso while they lie on their back - one of the most dominant positions in grappling. You have gravity, mobility, and access to many submissions while they struggle to breathe and escape. Maintaining mount requires balance and hip pressure. From mount, you can attack with chokes, armlocks, and transitions to back control. Being mounted is exhausting and demoralizing. Learning to escape mount and maintain mount are fundamental BJJ skills.
