What is turtle position?

Turtle position in BJJ is when you are on your hands and knees with your head tucked and elbows tight - like a turtle hiding in its shell. It is a defensive position used to protect your neck from chokes and limbs from submissions when you cannot maintain guard. From turtle, you have three main options: stand up and reset, sit through to guard, or attack with rolls like the granby roll. When attacking someone in turtle, you hunt for the back, apply front headlock chokes, or try to turn them over for side control. Turtle is common after failed takedown attempts and guard passes.
